Whatsup guys? Today on Final Boss Friday I’m gonna teach you the 5 Best Secrets to Beat Mike Tyson in Punchout on the NES and its coming at you right now, so if you ever wanted to know how to beat Mike Tyson in Punchout stay tuned guys!
Who all here spent most of their childhood trying to beat Mike Tyson on his NES punch out game? I know I did. It took years for me to do it as a kid and I didn’t get really good at it until I was an adult and was able to score some pro tips through word of mouth and some searching on the internet. I went ahead and beat Mike on my own punch out game using these tips and now Im gonna share them with you guys so lets get started.
The first secret to beating Mike Tyson is actually here on my shirt. This is the password to get straight to Mike Tyson which will save you a lot of time practicing because you are probably gonna get beat quite a few times fighting the Dynamite Kid. I may not remember anyones phone numbers anymore, but I’ll never forget 007-373-5963.
The next secret is to use the quick dodge. The nes controller is somewhat pressure sensitive and if you hold the left or right direction down too hard to dodge then you will actually dodge away for too long to get back in time to hit Tyson before he hits you. The quick dodge is performed by just lightly pressing the dpad to the side to quickly dodge and bounce back to center to execute some quick counter punches. Anytime you dodge during this entire fight, always use the quick dodge.
Secret number 3 is to Don’t Guess and wait for the Flash. Its really tempting to try to guess Tyson’s rhythm at the beginning of the fight while he is dealing out his instant knockout punches for the first minute and a half. If you do this and try to guess when he is gonna punch you’ll surely get knocked out quickly. You must wait for the flash, which is the split second flicker that Mike Tyson’s sprite does just an instant before he punches. When you see the flash, do a quick dodge to one side and prepare quickly for the counter punch.
This leads us the fourth secret which is to use proper counter punches. This means that whatever way Tyson is facing after you dodge his uppercut, you must hit him with a counter punch to the face from the opposite hand meaning that if he is looking to the right then you punch with your left in order to do more damage than with a punch from your right hand. This is crucial as every extra bit of damage you can inflict is key.
The fifth secret is to never use star punches. There are a few times during the fight that Tyson stares off while dreaming of a perfectly marinated Holyfield ear that you can punch him in the face and get a star punch but the timing never seems to work out quite well when executing the star punches so just don’t use them.
Here is an honorable mention secret for you guys too. Sometimes Mike will use a series of straight jabs. Just quickly dodge these jabs. Don’t try to hit him. Just wait until he goes back to one of his other familiar patterns.
Well thats it guys. If you use these secrets and stay patient you should eventually be able to defeat Mike Tyson and you should be proud because he is still one of the hardest bosses in video game history.
